Our corals Sarcophyton and others for sale

All of these fall into the category of soft corals, also known as leather corals due to their shape and texture similar to leather, but also because they have spicules in their tissue which provide a certain rigidity. All leather corals are octocorals, meaning they have strictly 8 tentacles per polyp, making them easy to identify. For years, soft corals have been appreciated by everyone for their resilience, shape, and colors. Some species of fish, like amphiprion, appreciate leather corals as they provide a place to live.

Indeed, these corals are very resistant, especially to NO3 and PO4. They are therefore ideal for beginners who should have no trouble maintaining them in their aquarium, watching them grow, and even trying to propagate them.

Medium to strong water flow

Note that for these different corals, a fairly direct but not too powerful flow is important due to their sometimes impressive molting (the molting of Sarcophyton can last up to a week). Care should also be taken to position these corals well in the aquarium to avoid cohabitation problems, as they can be stinging to some other corals. The growth of leather corals (and similar) is quite significant, so they could also cover other nearby corals.

Medium to strong lighting

These corals are tolerant of light. Care should be taken to place them in a fairly bright spot, such as the upper part of the aquarium. Some varieties of Sarcophyton from Australia need strong light to maintain their fluorescence. Conversely, some varieties of Sarcophyton are found deeper and need less light.

Propagation and strains we cultivate

During propagation, we use three different techniques:

Elastic bands, glue, and also toothpicks, etc. These corals can be easily propagated using a sterile scalpel that allows us to make clean and precise cuts.
The advantage of propagating Sarcophyton: it can be done in any direction, horizontally or vertically.

We then select the most beautiful pieces to cultivate them on small ceramic plugs, which are fixed using:

- A toothpick that will be inserted into the coral until it is completely fixed on the plug (the toothpick is removed once fixed)
- An elastic band to hold the coral on its plug.
- Glue if the coral is already fixed on coral sand, for example.

When shipping your order, we will send your leather corals with activated charcoal, as these corals release toxins during travel.
