RAC substrates are limestone granules to be placed in the calcium reactor. They come in different sizes. The calcium reactor then dissolves the granules to provide the necessary calcium for the growth of hard corals. The RAC substrate is essential in a reef aquarium for healthy corals. It also offers magnesium granules to supplement the calcium.
