Freshwater living for aquariums includes fish, shrimp, other detritivorous invertebrates (Neritina algae-eating snails and others), and aquatic plants.

Additionally, these aquatic animals and plants are selected and ordered from highly reputable specialists in their field. By ordering, you will receive high-quality animals and plants.
For example, the fish come from the best destinations in the world because we work with breeders who are globally renowned for their quality. In fact, some specimens are even ranked in beauty championships.
Another example, aquarium shrimp are ordered and acclimated from the best farms, from Bali to Singapore. The same goes for other animals such as crabs or freshwater mussels.
Our freshwater aquarium plants come from very well-known aquatic nurseries (Dennerle, but also others depending on the species).

    FRESHWATER FISH FOR AQUARIUM

    Freshwater fish are found in rivers and bodies of water on every continent. RecifAtHome does not sell any fish taken from the wild. All species offered for purchase come from breeding, always with a choice of quality.

    Each fish species requires specific water quality: respect it!

    Water quality is very important for properly raising freshwater fish. For example, very soft water (GH below 5) and slightly acidic (pH below 6.8) is recommended for South America. Conversely, very hard water (GH above 15) is recommended for cichlids from the African Great Lakes. Soft and neutral water (with a pH of 7) is suitable for the maintenance of many species.

    The water temperature, which can vary from one environment to another, is often overlooked. Monitor it, especially in summer. Remember that the freshwater fish sold are of exotic origin: they like water at around 25°C. For example, betta fish should be kept at 25°C and not at room temperature as is often seen.

    Combine fish with freshwater plants.

    Thanks to breeders and the adaptability of freshwater aquarium fish, it is now possible to create a community aquarium. However, out of habit, prefer to create specific biotopes representing precise locations in the Amazon, Asia, etc.

    There is no average number of fish per liter of aquarium water; it depends on the species, age, etc.

    In all cases, with rare exceptions like African cichlids from the great lakes, always combine aquarium plants for the well-being of your animals.

    Online sales or mail order sales of aquatic plants for freshwater aquariums.

    Most aquarium plants spend at least a large part of the year out of the water; however, the humidity should be at 75-80% and a temperature of 25 degrees is recommended.
    Some plants, like Egeria and Ceratophyllum, are 100% hygrophilous, meaning they only live in water.

    Plant Maintenance

    We recommend maintaining plants with a KH close to zero and a GH close to 7. We have a special category for fertilizers for freshwater plants.
    Two solutions are available to you for creating the ideal substrate for your plants:
    - The first involves having a soil type such as compost or aqualite covered by aquarium sand
    - The second is to have a technical aquascaping substrate directly usable by the plants that does not need to be covered.
    All our plants are sold in small pots or metal rings; please remove them before introducing them into the aquarium so that the roots can develop properly in the substrate.
    Very good aquascaping lighting is mandatory. Check our category to find the best references for growing your plants.
    The CO2 kit is optional but very effective. Contact us for customized advice.
