HyperSorb ™ 250ml SEACHEM

- High-capacity organic waste removal
- Synthetic absorbent
- Economical carbon substitute
- No impact on pH; minimal impact on trace elements

Overview

HyperSorb ™ by Seachem is a premium synthetic absorbent with exceptional organic removal capacity and ion management capabilities; it removes organic waste, toxic vapors, and other pollutants. It is ideal for all types of water, including marine, brackish, and a wide range of freshwater, from acidic to alkaline. In freshwater, it will help stabilize the ionic balance and help control ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. It has all the benefits of carbon and none of the drawbacks. HyperSorb ™ changes color gradually as it exhausts, and can then be easily regenerated with ordinary bleach. Regeneration is nearly 100% effective and can be performed repeatedly.

Sizes: 100 mL, 250 mL, 2 L, 4 L

Instructions

Use in a filter bag such as The Bag.

Each 250 mL treats up to 300 L (75 US gallons).

Rinse before use.

Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads from yellow to dark brown.

REGENERATION:

Soak in a 1:1 bleach solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area away from children.

Use a household bleach containing 8.25% hypochlorite (unscented, without dyes, do not use splashless bleach).

Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in a solution containing 4 tablespoons of Prime® or an equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water.

Rinse thoroughly.

For freshwater use, soak for 4 hours in a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer per cup of water (Discus Buffer®, Neutral Regulator®).

The original color and full activity should now be restored and HyperSorb ™ is ready to be reused. Caution: some slime-coating products can permanently foul HyperSorb ™ and make regeneration difficult.

Do not reuse if a bleach/chlorine odor is detectable.

If in doubt, soak the beads in a small amount of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

FAQ

Can I use HyperSorb ™ in a blackwater system or would tannic acid be one of the organic molecules it removes?

Any other resin or carbon will be more aggressive in removing tannins, colors, etc. For this reason, Hypersorb would be my first choice. My second choice would be Renew, which we sell as an economical and less aggressive alternative to carbon.

Would it be better to use HyperSorb ™ or Purigen® in a reef aquarium?

I would definitely prefer Purigen® over Hypersorb ™ because Purigen® has a much greater organic removal capacity in saltwater than Hypersorb ™.

Can you use The Bag ™ by Seachem as a filter bag for bulk Hypersorb ™?

Absolutely, the bag is designed to hold all our chemical filtration media, including Hypersorb. It will also withstand discoloration and acid if needed to regenerate our resins.

I set up a tank with HyperSorb ™ as the filtration media and my water turned an orange/brown color. Am I using too much HyperSorb ™?

HyperSorb ™ is an adsorbent media/resin that is incapable of leaching anything into the water column. The orange/brown color you mention could be due to the leaching of organic acids from driftwood, peat, or any other organic matter if present in your system. If it is a new aquarium, it could also be a bacterial bloom due to a biological filter being established. HyperSorb ™ does not need to be rinsed before use.
