En savoir plus

Chaetodon ephippium is a butterflyfish possessing a large black ocellus on its back, earning it the name "saddleback butterflyfish." Fine blue stripes are visible on its sides, from the pectoral fins to the caudal fin. It can reach up to 24 cm and inhabits the waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It generally lives in pairs in areas rich in corals, such as reefs and lagoons.

To keep it healthy, an aquarium of at least 450 liters is necessary. The water should be at a temperature between 23° and 28°. The pH should be around 8.2. If the Chaetodon ephippium has a significant swimming space, maintenance with individuals of the same species, or conversely, of another species, poses no problem. However, its diet can be complex because this fish only consumes small invertebrates or coral polyps. Fish eggs can be an alternative once the species is acclimated.

Common name: Saddleback butterflyfish. This fish has an elliptical beige body with a large black ocellus located on the back end.
