En savoir plus
Chaetodon melannotus, originating from the Red Sea and the coasts of the island of Madagascar, is a black-backed butterflyfish. Indeed, mostly white or blue, its fins and outline are a bright yellow. However, its back is covered with a large black spot. A black mark vertically crossing its head through the eye is also visible, along with diagonal black stripes on its sides. Alone or in pairs, it inhabits coral reefs and lagoons not far from the seabed.
Its maintenance requires an aquarium of at least 400L and a temperature maintained between 23° and 27°. The pH should be between 8.2 and 8.4. With a peaceful temperament, Chaetodon melannotus is very non-aggressive towards other species, making it easy to keep. An omnivore with a carnivorous tendency, this fish is not compatible with corals.
Common name: Black-backed butterflyfish. This fish has a silver circular body striped with fine oblique black lines. It is easy to feed as it eats a bit of everything, including coral polyps, so it is reserved for a fish-only tank. It needs an aquarium rich in algal vegetation.
