Cerpofor Flagellex - Treatment against Flagellates and Hole-in-the-Head Disease
Volume Assessment
To determine the precise volume of your aquarium in liters, use the formula: length x width x average depth in decimeters. Then, account for the volume occupied by plants, stones, fossil wood, sand, etc. Generally, this represents about 10% of the volume, but in heavily stocked tanks, this proportion can reach up to 30%.
Product Details
Cerpofor Flagellex is available in two formats: 100 ml for 500 liters and 1,000 ml for 5,000 liters.
Water Quality
Water quality is crucial for the optimal effectiveness of medications and the rapid recovery of sick fish. Always test the water before and after treatment, and adjust the values if necessary.
Recommended Dosage and Usage
The recommended dosage is 1 ml of Cerpofor Flagellex per 5 liters of aquarium water. Use the dispenser provided with the product to measure the required amount and spread it in the water. Please note that Cerpofor Flagellex is acidic. If your water has a low carbonate hardness (KH below 4°DH), administer Flagellex over several hours to avoid a pH shock. Activate the air pump. Before application, it is advisable to change 25% of the water, and after 48 hours, change another 25% of the water.
Do not filter with carbon or zeolite, and disconnect UV lamps and equipment for 48 hours after administering the treatment. During the treatment, do not perform a water change. If necessary, dose 1 ml per 5 liters of tap water. You can keep the filter running.
Precautions and Information
Cerpofor Flagellex is safe for invertebrates such as frogs, shrimp, freshwater crayfish, and snails. However, due to their sensitivity, we cannot guarantee it. Share your positive or negative experiences on www.colombo.nl or by email: info@colombo.nl.
Cerpofor Flagellex is designed for standard community aquariums with a pH between 7 and 8.5 and a KH of 4-8°DH. Special aquariums with different values can influence the effectiveness of Flagellex. It is suitable only for freshwater aquarium fish. Keep the product between 4 and 32°C in its box. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and in case of ingestion, consult a doctor with the packaging or label at hand. This product can leave indelible stains on clothes and floors.
Information on Flagellates and Hole-in-the-Head Disease
Flagellates are named because they move using a relatively small number of long flagella. Among indo-flagellates, the species Octomitus, Protopaline, and Spironucleus dorsale pose the most significant problems. Octomitus (formerly called Hexamita) was first identified in Discus fish. It is now known that several fish species, particularly cichlids, can be affected, including African lake cichlids (Malawi and Tanganyika).
Symptoms often start in the gastrointestinal tract. The excrement is discolored, the fish lose weight, and show a depression behind the head. Their eyes become bulging. The parasite can spread throughout the body, primarily affecting the liver and kidneys. In the case of hole-in-the-head disease, small holes appear on the head, from which small balls of pus emerge. As the disease progresses, the holes enlarge and spread throughout the body. When muscles, eyes, and internal organs are affected, recovery is no longer possible. Therefore, it is essential to start treatment very early. Poor water quality and the distribution of food without vitamin C play a key role in the development of the disease.
