ACTIVE BASE SUBSTRATE FOR PLANTED AQUARIUMS
SCAPER'S SOIL
Nutrient substrate for vigorous plant growth
With all essential minerals and trace elements
With highly fertile volcanic soil
With a biofiltration function for healthy and clear water
For the active creation of soft and slightly acidic water (approximately pH 6-6.5, KH 0-2 °d)
Double-fired – durable water resistance
Ideal in combination with CO2 fertilization
Rich in humic and fulvic acids
Ideal for all plants, fish, and shrimp that need soft and slightly acidic water
Suitable for undergravel filters (shrimp farming)
Special nutrient formula - does not promote algae growth
Scaper’s Soil is an active base substrate, specially designed for aquariums. It creates soft, slightly acidic water that most animals and plants from tropical regions appreciate. Scaper’s Soil is ideally suited for planted aquariums (especially aquascaping) and shrimp aquariums.
Scaper’s Soil is made from 100% natural raw materials. Made from various carefully selected natural soils, it provides all the vital minerals and trace elements that aquarium plants need daily. The irregularly shaped grains, with a diameter between 1 and 4 mm, give the substrate a particularly natural appearance. Its light structure allows for optimal water circulation in the substrate and good root anchorage for plants. Scaper’s Soil offers the perfect foundation for healthy and vigorous plant growth as well as splendid colors. Mosses also benefit: this is evident in their dense growth and intense green small leaves. The dark black coloration creates a vivid and intense contrast with the bright green of the plants.
Scaper’s Soil effectively prevents algae proliferation for three reasons:
With its special nutrient formula: the nutrients primarily benefit the plants and not the algae.
With its nutritional buffer function: like a battery, the excess nutrients are extracted from the free water and only returned to the plants when needed.
With the powerful stimulation of plant growth: indeed, well-growing aquatic plants are the worst enemies of algae.
Scaper’s Soil has ion exchange properties. Thus, it lowers the pH and stabilizes it at a slightly acidic level (approximately pH 6.0 to 6.5). At the same time, it reduces carbonate hardness (depending on the starting water up to nearly 0 °d KH) and significantly softens the water. Additionally, it serves as a natural source of humic and fulvic acids without coloring the water. Therefore, Scaper’s Soil creates water values that correspond to the habits and natural environment of many species of tropical aquarium plants and fish. Example: slightly acidic soft water is ideal for most South American ornamental fish, such as neon tetras, angelfish, or discus.
Despite soft water, Scaper’s Soil can also be safely used in combination with CO2 fertilization because the pH is stabilized by the substrate. Scaper’s Soil guarantees crystal-clear water and healthy living conditions. The porous surface provides the ideal substrate for the establishment of important cleaning bacteria. Thus, the entire substrate becomes a massive biofilter. This results in optimal conditions for effective biological self-cleaning and excellent water quality. At the same time, the substrate binds many harmful substances to remove them directly from the water. The granules are double-fired and therefore remain stable in water for the long term.
ALSO FOR SHRIMP
Its pH and carbonate hardness reducing properties, as well as its excellent filtration performance, make Scaper’s Soil the optimal substrate for breeding shrimp species that require slightly acidic soft water, such as Crystal Red and Red Bee.
Thanks to its long-term solid grains, Scaper’s Soil combines wonderfully with soil filters often used for shrimp breeding. It accelerates the adjustment of water to ideal values and increases the filter's efficiency. Due to its light yet solid structure, the substrate provides optimal oxygen supply to the bottom layer, preventing the formation of rot spots. Its highly porous surface forms an excellent colonization substrate for important microorganisms, particularly beneficial for the development of baby shrimp. The color and pattern of the shrimp are very well highlighted against the background of Scaper’s Soil. Especially white, red, or yellow shrimp literally shine against the dark black background.
