En savoir plus
The Xiphophorus helleri, or swordtail fish, is a specimen found in the fresh waters of Central America. Its physical appearance strongly resembles that of the platy, with a very orange body and darkened fins. However, the Xiphophorus helleri has the distinctive feature of possessing a longer tail. Its average size is around 10 cm and its lifespan is about 5 years. The Xipho lives in small groups at mid-depth, hardly bothering with other animals around it. Following an omnivorous diet, it eats both dry and frozen foods once in an aquarium.
A minimum capacity of 120 L is required as well as a temperature between 21°C and 26°C. The pH should be close to 7 for optimal parameters. Very easy to raise, this species poses no problem of cohabitation with other individuals and is therefore perfectly suited to community aquariums. A tank rich in vegetation is a significant advantage for the comfort of these animals.
