The Betta splendens
Also known by its common name, the Siamese fighting fish.
The Betta splendens is a very popular fish due to its ease of maintenance, but especially for its wide range of colors. It has very beautiful fins. The fighting fish has the particularity of making a bubble nest in order to reproduce. Aggressive towards other males, fighters will battle until the weaker one is exhausted or even dead. Deeply rooted in Thai culture, Betta fights were a subject of betting.
- Optimal Maintenance:
Minimum volume of 50 L, with filtration and heating.
Many plants, roots, and rocks will constitute an optimal environment for your fish.
- Water Quality:
In Thailand, the water pH is around 6.
Osmosis water or rainwater would be ideal.
- Meaning of Fighter Forms:
Betta splendens short tail (wild form) short fins, generally blue/green/red colors, strong and long pelvic fins.
PK = Betta splendens plakat (breeding form) short fins, strong and long pelvic fins.
QDV = Betta splendens veil tail, quite large fins, the most classic breeding form.
CT = Betta splendens crowntail (crown tail), spikes on the fins due to the absence of tissue between the strong ramifications of the fish's tail.
HM = Betta splendens Halfmoon (half-moon), long anal fin, strong and opens to 180°.
D = Betta splendens delta, fairly long anal fin, opens to about 90°.
SD = Betta splendens superdelta, fairly long anal fin, opens between 91 and 179°.
OHM = Betta splendens overhalfmoon (super half-moon), long fin, highly branched, opens to more than 180°.
