The Betta splendens

Also known by its common name, the Siamese fighting fish.

The Betta splendens is a highly appreciated fish due to its ease of maintenance, but especially for its vast array of colors. It has very beautiful fins. The fighting fish has the unique characteristic of building a bubble nest for reproduction. With an aggressive temperament towards other males, they fight until the weaker one is exhausted or even dead. Deeply rooted in Thai culture, Betta fights were once the subject of bets.

- Optimal Maintenance:

A minimum volume of 30 liters, with filtration and heating.
Numerous plants, roots, and rocks will create an optimal environment for your fish.

- Water Quality:

In Thailand, the pH of the water is around 6.
Osmosis water or rainwater would therefore be ideal.

- Significance of Fighting Fish Forms:

Betta splendens short tail (wild form) short fins, generally blue/green/red colors, strong and long pelvic fins.
PK = Betta splendens plakat (breeding form) short fins, strong and long pelvic fins.
QDV = Betta splendens veil tail, fairly common breeding form.
CT = Betta splendens crowntail (crown tail), spikes on the fins due to the absence of tissue between the strong branches of the fish’s tail.
HM = Betta splendens Halfmoon (half-moon), long, strong anal fin that opens to 180°.
D = Betta splendens delta, fairly long anal fin, opening to about 90°.
SD = Betta splendens superdelta, fairly long anal fin, opening between 91 and 179°
OHM = Betta splendens overhalfmoon (super half-moon), long, highly branched fins, opening to more than 180°

Note that some forms can be combined, so it's possible to see Betta OHMPK, Betta overhalfmoon plakat.
The forms apply to both males and females!
