The Pencil Fish - Nannostomus beckfordi is a small South American schooling fish, omnipresent in the freshwater of French Guiana. Depending on the geographical origin, the colors of the pencil fish can vary. Gregarious, it moves in colonies in shallow waters. It also appreciates substrates littered with various and diverse vegetation. Its diet corresponds to the habits of an insectivore.
This fish naturally resides in acidic to neutral water. It is relatively sensitive to abrupt changes in parameters as well as to chemicals. The recommended pH is therefore 4.5 to 6. The ideal water temperature is around 25°C. To respect the living space of your animals, opt for an aquarium of at least 60 liters.
