The Betta splendens
Also commonly known as the Siamese fighting fish.
The Betta splendens is a highly appreciated fish for its ease of maintenance, but especially for its vast array of colors. It has very beautiful fins. The fighting fish has the particularity of building a bubble nest in order to reproduce. Aggressive towards other males, fighting fish battle until the weaker one is exhausted, or even dead. Deeply rooted in Thai culture, Betta fights were often the subject of bets.
- Optimal maintenance:
Minimum volume of 30 liters, with filtration and heating.
Numerous plants, roots, and rocks will create an optimal environment for your fish.
- Water quality:
In Thailand, the water pH is around 6.
Osmosis water or rainwater would be ideal.
- Meaning of fighting fish forms:
Betta splendens short tail (wild form) short fins, generally blue/green/red colors, strong and long pelvic fins.
PK = Betta splendens plakat (breeding form) short fins, strong and long pelvic fins.
QDV = Betta splendens veil tail, quite long fins, it is the most classic breeding form.
CT = Betta splendens crowntail (crown tail), spiky fins due to the absence of tissue between the strong branches of the fish's tail.
HM = Betta splendens Halfmoon (half-moon), long anal fin, strong and opens to 180°.
D = Betta splendens delta, fairly long anal fin, opens to about 90°.
SD = Betta splendens superdelta, fairly long anal fin, opens between 91 and 179°.
OHM = Betta splendens overhalfmoon, (super half-moon), long fins, highly branched, opens to more than 180°.
