En savoir plus
The Hypancistrus sp. "King Tiger" is a Loricariidae from South America, belonging to the catfish family. The male can be distinguished from the female by a more square and imposing head. As an adult, a fish of this species measures 12 to 15 cm. Its lifespan is estimated to be around fifteen years. The Hypancistrus sp. "King Tiger" generally resides near the bottom, which consists of pebbles, sand, and rocks. Adopting a nocturnal lifestyle, it favors strong and moderate currents in well-oxygenated freshwater.
For aquarium breeding, this solitary and territorial specimen prefers the company of other non-territorial fish rather than conspecifics. A water volume of 200 L with a temperature between 25° and 29° is recommended, along with a pH ranging from 5.8 to 7.5. As an algivore, detritivore, and insectivore, it is relatively easy to feed this species. Breeding this fish is accessible to most people, but its tankmates must be chosen carefully to avoid conflicts within the tank or aquarium.
