En savoir plus

The Mikrogeophagus ramirezi is a dwarf cichlid with an average size of 3 cm. However, males are larger than females and display a more prominent dorsal fin. In terms of scales, there are various color varieties for this species. In its natural habitat, it lives in small groups or pairs at mid-depth and adopts a diurnal lifestyle. The diet of the Mikrogeophagus ramirezi is primarily detritivorous.

To maintain this fish in good conditions, an aquarium of at least 80 liters is necessary. The tank water should have a temperature between 23°C and 30°C and a pH between 6 and 6.8. Introducing two specimens of this type constitutes the minimum conditions for cohabitation. Thorough maintenance of the aquarium and impeccable water quality are crucial because the species is relatively sensitive to changes in their environment. Thus, the maintenance of the Mikrogeophagus ramirezi is rather difficult.
