Xenotoca eiseni, an extraordinary fish:
Native to Mexico, the Xenotoca eiseni is a fish from the Goodeidae family.
In addition to being colorful, the male is distinguished from the female by his andropodium (the equivalent of the gonopodium in Poeciliidae), which is a modified anal fin used for reproduction.
The Goodeidae are matrotrophic fish. This means that their embryos are nourished by nutrients coming directly from the mother.
During gestation, which lasts about 60 days, the embryos are connected by a trophotaenia (extensions of the intestine) similar to the umbilical cord in mammals.
With an adult size of 7-8 cm for females and 5-6 cm for males, we recommend an aquarium of at least 80 liters.
