Waterproof pH/ORP/°C Tester HI98121 HANNA
Description
The HI98121 is a waterproof pocket pH meter, ORP, and temperature tester. This tool is protected from moisture and is designed to float. The HI73127 pH electrode is replaceable and easy to insert because it has a round stainless steel connector. With this type of connector, there are no pins that could bend or break during replacement. The pH electrode is also equipped with a removable fiber junction. This type of junction can be renewed by pulling it out about 3 mm (1/8”) to eliminate blockages and improve response time and measurement stability. The instrument's temperature sensor allows for fast and accurate temperature measurements.
The HI98121 is a lightweight tester designed to float, making it ideal for taking measurements practically anywhere. With the HI98121, it is possible to measure pH and redox simultaneously. The HI98121 is commonly used to monitor pH and chlorine for various applications in swimming pools, food sanitation, wastewater treatment, and cooling towers.
By definition, pH is the measure of the voltage generated by an electrochemical cell with zero current. The potential generated is proportional to the thermodynamic activity of the ion to be measured.
Similar to the measurement of pH, which determines the degree of acidity or alkalinity of solutions, the measurements of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) quantify the overall state of a solution based on its capacity to oxidize or reduce a chemical species. Oxidizing and reducing reagents are used for chemical reactions called redox reactions.
An ORP sensor must be chemically inert; this means it cannot be oxidized or reduced. It must also have a surface with specific characteristics to promote rapid electron exchange, a property known as high exchange current density. It has been shown that two noble metals work well for this purpose: pure platinum and pure gold are both used in the construction of ORP sensors.
