Why measure nitrate concentrations in an aquarium?
Nitrates develop from fish waste and leftover food. They strongly promote the proliferation and growth of algae and cause stress to fish at relatively high concentrations.
Optimal content: less than 10 mg/L
Above 50 mg/L, it is recommended to partially replace the water with tap water low in nitrates (also measure before adding!)
