Neocirrhites armatus 5-7 cm

A red species that enjoys strong currents

The Neocirrhites armatus or red hawkfish is a rather timid marine animal when it comes to other species. Therefore, it takes refuge in the branches of corals to observe its surroundings. Its magnificent red hue offers a spectacle worthy of its name in an aquarium.

En savoir plus

The Neocirrhites armatus is a red hawkfish with a black stripe along its spiny dorsal fin. Measuring around ten centimeters, it generally thrives in the waters of the Indo-Pacific region, near the seabed where the current is strong. It prefers areas rich in branching corals, where it hides to observe its surroundings.

When kept in an aquarium, the temperature that Neocirrhites armatus tolerates is between 24° and 27°C. The pH should be between 7.5 and 8.5. Although aggressive towards its own kind, it is rather timid in the presence of other species. Water that is heavily circulated and rich in oxygen promotes the specimen's health.

Neocirrhites armatus, this red and black fish is compatible with reef tanks, but be careful as it hunts small shrimp.
