The structure of Nano-Tech Bio Media is primarily composed of numerous small beads tightly packed against each other in such a way that there is only a single point of contact between each of the beads, allowing water to pass through them very easily. This technology has been used for a long time by the wastewater treatment industry. It is called an aerated biological filter (W-BAF). However, in wastewater treatment, these beads are not in the form of spheres, blocks, or plugs. They are used like the sand bed technique. But this is not very practical for use in aquariums. Therefore, we decided to create spheres, blocks, and plugs with these beads using a patented technology, making them much easier to use for us aquarists.
