Protocol for Starting the Sulfur Reactor

Step 2: Connecting to the Water Circuit

  • You can adjust the incoming and outgoing water flow to optimize the biodenitrification process.

Step 3: Priming the Reactor

  • Activate the reactor and let it run. The anaerobic bacteria necessary for biodenitrification will gradually develop in the sulfur substrate.
  • It may take a few weeks for the reactor to become fully operational and start reducing nitrate and phosphate levels.

Step 4: Monitoring and Adjustments

  • Regularly monitor nitrate and phosphate levels in the aquarium using appropriate test kits.
  • If the levels are not reduced as expected, adjust the water flow through the reactor or check the sulfur substrate to ensure it is in good condition.

Step 5: Maintenance

  • Periodically clean the reactor following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Replace the sulfur substrate according to the manufacturer's recommendations to maintain the efficiency of the biodenitrification process.
