OCTOCalReact is equipped with a high-quality molded acrylic body, a pH probe holder to allow constant monitoring of water alkalinity (pH level) using a pH probe (sold separately), an integrated bubble counter for calculating CO₂ flow rate, reverse water flow for CO₂ recirculation to maximize contact time with the coral medium that produces CO₂.

Powered by our VarioS DC pump, which includes a wheel impeller, a removable controller, a high-quality ceramic shaft and bearing to reduce wear, and the latest variable speed flow technology for refined control, improved performance, energy efficiency, and safer operations.

Unlike the vast majority of circulation pumps that use alternating current (AC), our VarioS pump offers several key advantages over traditional AC pumps, namely higher energy efficiency, safer operation at a 24V operating voltage, and, most notably, variable speed control to adjust the ideal mix of air and water flow in the skimmer.

Note: The models above are not nominal pressure pumps. This pump is not intended for second-stage applications or for supplying Beckett skimmers or downdraft skimmers where constant pressure is required.

How does it work?

A calcium reactor is essentially a chamber filled with aragonite, which is a natural form of mineral carbonate, or commonly referred to as crushed hard corals. Aquarium water circulates through this chamber along with carbon dioxide (CO2). The CO2 lowers the pH of the chamber to an acidic level, which dissolves the carbonate minerals into the aquarium water. In addition to dissolving carbonate minerals, this process also dissolves nearly all the minerals and trace elements that coral needs to grow.

Automated calcium and alkalinity supplementation – When properly set up with an external controller and a probe, these parameters can be predefined with very little monitoring and maintenance.
