CLARISEA - Paper roll for SK5000 XL filter, 40 meters long
CLARISEA Paper Roll for SK5000XL Filter
IMPROVED EFFICIENCY PLUS 50% EXTRA FREE
The ClariSea team spent many months developing a new, more efficient, and long-lasting fleece, which has now been launched under the name ClariSea XL Fleece, with the following benefits:
Increased flow through the media for a longer lifespan
Improvement in dirt removal for cleaner water and darker rollers
Reduced effect on the skimmer foam during the first change of a new roller.
Better water resistance of the central disposable core
Length of the roll: 40 meters - 60% longer than the original 25-meter rolls
Made in Europe
100% recyclable polypropylene
Fleece area on a single roll
Do you know that each Clarisea XL roll has the equivalent surface area of the following number of standard filter socks?
SK5000 XL - Filter Socks 155 x 4"
Cost savings
Consider how often you need to change your filter socks!
Do you wash them or change them? If so, what is your value every 3-4 days?
Incredible but true, compare the cost of the two options yourself and you will understand why the ClariSea fleece filter is so popular.
Micron size
It is not really correct to indicate a micron size for this type of filtering material because it can be misleading.
Like all fleece filters of this type, including bag filters, the size of the particles removed by the media will continuously decrease as the fleece becomes dirtier.
Example: with a 200-micron filter sock, the largest particle that should pass through again is 200 microns, but as the media starts to collect dirt, the holes become clogged, creating increasingly smaller passages, and therefore the bag collects increasingly smaller particles. It continues to do this until the head pressure can no longer force water through the small holes and it overflows.
The ClariSea operates in exactly the same way, except that instead of overflowing and needing to change or clean the bag, it automatically rolls to expose a piece of fresh material. The fresh fleece will let larger particles pass through, and the dirtier material will stop the smaller particles.
Flow rate vs filter lifespan
The higher the flow through the fleece, the shorter the roll will last.
Imagine it as a large group of people trying to exit a building through a door. The more they try to leave slowly and in an organized manner, the easier it is for individuals to gather and fill the small gaps in the crowd, much like water and small particles making their way through tiny holes in a fabric.
Compare this with people trying to leave quickly in a panic, creating chaos, so that people move back around the door, like the water level receding and triggering the float to move on the roller in the ClariSea without it being completely saturated with dirt.
This graph is based on the actual flow rate readings measured in a well-stocked reef aquarium.
ClariSea installation height vs filter lifespan
The pressure to force such a significant flow of water through such a fine fleece is created by the height of the water head in the ClariSea unit above the water level in the sump.
The greater the difference between the two levels, the higher the back pressure and the easier it is to force the same amount of water through increasingly smaller holes created by the fleece blocks. Therefore, the ideal height would be with the silencer plate openings approximately 1-2 cm (1/2-1") below the water surface. (In the tests on the "flow rate vs. filter lifespan" graph, the bottom of the ClariSea was submerged 11 cm below the surface).
The deeper the Clarisea is in the water, the less head pressure there is to force water through the fleece, and therefore the shorter the lifespan of the roll.
Autres Factors that affect the lifespan of the filter
The factors affecting the lifespan of the fleece are:
1 - Water flow (volume)
2 - Installation height of the filter above the water.
3 - Dirty tank.
With most aquariums, you will find that they act like large settling chambers where food particles, debris, and dead bacteria settle into the sand or substrate. The Clarisea will remove this debris from the water before it has a chance to settle, but it will also remove sediments from the substrate when disturbed by fish or manually.
The rolls in the early days may last longer and should be considered as lasting increasingly longer when the tank is cleaned.
4 - Greedy Fish
Tanks with high loads of hungry fish will dirty the roll faster, but will keep your aquarium sparkling clean by removing uneaten food before it decomposes.
5 - Excessive carbon dosage
Carbon dosing works by growing bacteria in the water column, which are then exported out of the system through skimming or filtration. Excessive carbon dosing can lead to bacterial blooms, which are perceived as a slight cloudiness in the water. The ClariSea fleece is fine enough to remove these bacteria from the water, but when present in high volumes, it can clog the fleece and reduce its lifespan. If you notice this, we suggest slowly reducing the amount of carbon source being added. Similarly, installing the ClariSea after a nitrate filter will also reduce its lifespan and result in a pale-colored roll due to the white bacteria.
