The Tripneustes ventricosus is a sea urchin with a dark body and white spines. These spines measure around 2 cm, and the animal can reach a size of 10 to 15 cm once fully grown. Its activity zone is confined to the Western Atlantic, near the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Generally, it is found near coral reefs close to the seabed. The presence of vegetation is absolutely crucial in its environment, as it consumes plants daily and they form its primary diet.
