En savoir plus

Also called "Flame Scallop," the Lima scabra is a pretty bright red shell that captures prey thanks to the current circulating between its two rough shells (trapper technique). Depending on their origin, some emit an electrical current to create a light that attracts the same prey. This specimen appreciates coral rocks and gravelly bottoms. Too fine sand is not suitable for this species of mussel. Phytoplankton constitute the main food source for the Lima scabra. The advantage of having such an animal in an aquarium lies in its ability to filter suspended particles in the water. A minimum water volume of 200 liters is required to maintain the Lima scabra in ideal conditions.
