HOBBY - Alder Cones
Description
Our cones are picked from black alders (Alnus glutinosa).
This natural product is harvested exclusively from places where nature remains intact and has been preserved from human damage.
What makes alder cones so special?
Alder cones are excellent sources of humic substances and valuable tannins.
Humic substances promote plant growth in the aquarium (by releasing nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur into the water); the pH slightly decreases and the water takes on a natural but clear tint – similar to the environments naturally favored by many inhabitants of our aquariums. Alder cones are also beneficial to animals from other regions for multiple reasons.
Tannins have the property of naturally inhibiting the development of pathogens harmful to your animals, such as bacteria and fungal spores.
Alder cones are also recommended to encourage the reproduction of your fish. The blackwater effect is a necessary condition for the mating of many animals. The antifungal action of tannins limits the proliferation of fungi in the laid eggs. Once the eggs hatch, the young develop much better and find infusoria in the alder cones that serve as food.
Shrimps and many other animals also appreciate the small cones that they graze, scrape, or use as hiding places.
Characteristics
• ensures the vitality and well-being of your animals
• gives the water a natural coloration, essential for many species
• slight decrease and stabilization of pH
• gently prevents the proliferation of undesirable bacteria
• antifungal action to prevent mycosis and the development of fungi on the laid eggs
• highly appreciated by shrimps, crabs, and plecos as supplementary food and as hiding places
Usage
Place the alder cones directly in the aquarium water (approximately 1 cone for 10 - 20 liters). The cones sink to the bottom of the aquarium within a few minutes. They then rapidly release their active ingredients into the water. Replace the cones every 2 - 3 weeks. You can leave the old cone in the aquarium as food for crabs and shrimps or remove it. Our alder cones can be stored indefinitely when kept in a dry place. As this is a natural product, differences in shape, color, and size are possible.
