How to choose the right DOC skimmer for a saltwater aquarium?

Each marine aquarium, thanks to an individually created biotope, has a different sensitivity to the load of organic compounds. The assumptions regarding the size of the tank are for the average soft coral marine aquarium, so these recommendations may vary depending on the biotope composition. Therefore, for sensitive biotopes, when choosing a skimmer, the recommended volume should be reduced or, if necessary, adjusted.

Low sensitivity, no correction

In aquariums containing soft corals, such as long polyps and anemones, the amount of dissolved organic compounds can be more significant and sometimes even essential for life.
The DOC skimmer for this aquarium volume can be used without the need for a patch.

Average sensitivity, 40% reduction

 
In mixed tanks containing soft and hard corals (LPS), a moderate sensitivity to changing organic conditions is generally observed. Zooplankton, sponges, etc., are also commonly found in these aquariums. For these tanks, a correction of about 40% of the indicated skimmer capacity is calculated.
A DOC skimmer for up to 1000 liters should be used for a tank with a maximum volume of around 600 liters.

High sensitivity, 60% reduction

SPS-dominated stone aquariums require an exceptionally high degree of water purity. They should not contain phosphate or nitrate. High oxygen saturation and clear water are essential. The DOC Skimmer is often used in these aquariums as a "standalone" solution.
A DOC skimmer for up to 1000 liters should be used for a tank of about 400 liters.

High sensitivity and high load, 70% reduction

Aquariums containing hard corals and numerous fish require a very high skimmer capacity. A skimmer must provide a high degree of water purity for stone corals with a relatively large number of fish. When used as a "standalone" skimmer, the skimmer must be particularly efficient.
A DOC skimmer for up to 1000 liters should be used for a tank of about 300 liters.

In the plankton breeding tanks, a 70% reduction

Hard corals or plankton breeding tanks for feeding require a particularly high degree of water purity. High oxygen saturation and clean water are essential.
A DOC skimmer for up to 1200 liters should be used in a tank of approximately 360 liters.

TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410

Skimming, filtration, and ventilation of a saltwater aquarium without electricity are impossible. However, there is no device more economical than the TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410. The DOC Skimmer uses only 11W (15W) of electricity. Additionally, it does not require any special installation, is very quiet, easy to use, and pleasant.

For aquariums up to 500 liters

Standard aquarium with glass dimensions (L x W x H) 500 x 300 x 400 mm, glass thickness 6 mm.
Water level: 150 mm, safety volume approx. 37 liters.

Removable post-filter

At the outlet of the foam, it enables perfect mechanical filtration with 300 µm nylon wool fibers, with minimal biological interference. It prevents the formation of undesirable substances and nitrates with longer cleaning intervals. The filter can be filled with agents such as activated carbon or a phosphate adsorber.

TUNZE® Hydrofoamer Silence 9410.04

Pump specially designed for the protein skimmer, the hydrofoamer generates a large number of small air bubbles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.3 mm. For an air capacity of 600l/h, 11 W (15 W) of energy is sufficient, placing this device at the forefront among other products of this type. Providing a water flow rate of 900l/h, it also serves as a feed pump, moving aquarium water to the skimmer.

Transition room with water dispenser

The patented anti-overheating system prevents the skimmer from overheating and regulates the foam efficiency based on the condition and surface tension of the water. The skimmer operates independently, automatically adjusting to its optimal functioning level.
