Technical Characteristics

How to choose the right DOC skimmer for a saltwater aquarium?

Each marine aquarium has, due to an individually created biotope, different sensitivity to the load of organic compounds. The assumptions regarding tank size are for the average marine soft coral aquarium, so these recommendations may vary depending on the biotope composition. Therefore, for sensitive biotopes, when choosing a skimmer, the recommended volume should be reduced or adjusted as necessary.

Low sensitivity, no correction

In aquariums containing soft corals, such as long polyps and anemones, the amount of dissolved organic compounds can be higher and sometimes even essential for life.
The DOC skimmer for this aquarium volume can be used without the need for adjustment.

Medium sensitivity, 40% reduction

In mixed tanks containing soft and hard corals (LPS), an average sensitivity to changing organic conditions is generally observed. Zooplankton, sponges, etc., are also often found here. For these aquariums, a correction of about 40% of the indicated skimmer capacity is calculated.
A DOC skimmer up to 1000 liters should be used for a maximum tank of about 600 liters.

High sensitivity, 60% reduction

Aquariums predominantly containing SPS stone corals require a particularly high degree of water purity. They should not be loaded with phosphate or nitrate. High oxygen saturation and clear water are indispensable. The DOC Skimmer is often used in these aquariums as a "standalone" solution.
A DOC skimmer up to 1000 liters should be used up to a tank of about 400 liters.

High sensitivity and high load, 70% reduction

Aquariums containing hard corals and many fish require very high skimmer capacity. A skimmer must provide a high degree of water purity for stone corals with a relatively large number of fish. When used as a "standalone" skimmer, it must be particularly efficient.
A DOC skimmer up to 1000 liters should be used up to a tank of about 300 liters.

In plankton breeding tanks 70% reduction

Hard corals or plankton breeding tanks for feeding require a particularly high degree of water purity. High oxygen saturation and clean water are indispensable.
A DOC skimmer up to 1200 liters should be used in a tank of about 360 liters.

The TUNZE® Comline®

Compact aquarium components for internal operation, ultra-functional, sophisticated, with clearly defined lines.
The Comline® is a range of multifunctional products: surface and substrate zone intake, high-flow propeller pump filter, flash protein skimming, the system creates a natural environment in the aquarium with a compact footprint. The goal is more performance with less space. Comline® components meet these requirements, and the visual harmony of the aquarium is maintained. It is no longer necessary to hide the technical equipment in the aquarium; on the contrary, it becomes an integral part of it. The system is very efficient; all organic pollutants are removed directly from the environment, while the path the water must travel is short and direct. The risk of leakage is almost nil. The highly efficient technology allows for a reduction in the volume of internal equipment, as well as significantly reducing energy consumption.

Comline® DOC Skimmer 9012

The large Comline® DOC Skimmer 9012 is designed for large marine and mixed aquariums and soft coral aquariums from 200 to 1200 liters or for sensitive hard coral reef biotopes up to 500 liters. It operates on the TUNZE® instant skimming principle and draws water from the surface layer when dirt is removed. As a result, it is used in aquariums as a standalone solution. The TUNZE® Foamer generates a large number of small air bubbles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.3 mm and is extremely quiet.
The silicone pads on the skimmer prevent the transmission of vibrations to the aquarium glass. The Comline® DOC Skimmer 9012 is ready to be mounted with a magnetic support for walls up to 15 mm thick.

Flash Skimming

The Flash Skimming principle ensures efficient foam production and high machine performance.
Principle: The protein-rich surface water layer is very intensively mixed with air by the TUNZE® Foamer. During the formation of air bubbles, waste such as proteins, cellulose, dead cells, etc. are collected on the surface, resulting in small bubbles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.3 mm. The water and air bubble mixture is relaxed and stabilized in the skimmer, then the water returns to the aquarium and the air bubbles with the proteins move to the foam reactor tank. The patented Anti Overfoaming system - an intermediate chamber with a water distributor prevents the skimmer from boiling and regulates the foam efficiency according to the water level and biological load.

With Flash Skimming, a particularly high efficiency can be achieved compared to modular skimmers with a long contact time, because in this case, the substances absorbed by the bubbles do not detach but return to the aquarium water.
