Reef Advantage Strontium ™ - 4kg - SEACHEM
- Restores and maintains strontium to levels found in natural seawater
- Dry strontium chloride
- Vitally important to prevent ionic imbalance
Overview
Strontium is found in natural seawater at a concentration of about 8 to 10 mg/L. It is chemically very similar to calcium, and many organisms incorporate it into their skeletons along with calcium. Adding it to reef aquariums facilitates the growth of corals, coralline algae, and other organisms that deposit a calcareous skeleton or shell, including tridacnid clams.
Reef Advantage Strontium ™ restores and maintains strontium to levels found in natural seawater. Strontium is used by corals in much the same way as calcium and holds similar importance for maintaining a vigorous growth rate. It is particularly useful in densely populated aquariums that require a continuous supply of strontium. Reef Advantage Strontium ™ is a highly concentrated strontium supplement (30,000 ppm) and ionically balanced.
Unlike other strontium chloride-based products, Reef Advantage Strontium ™ is formulated to be added directly to the aquarium. Competing products require mixing a separate solution before adding it to the system.
Sizes: 250g, 500g, 1kg, 4kg
Instructions
Beginner
Use 6g (1 level teaspoon) per 150L (40 gallons) twice a week.
Can be added directly to the aquarium.
For precise dosing, use the Seachem digital spoon scale.
Advanced
Check the strontium level (use Reef Status ™ Strontium to test strontium levels), then follow the above addition pattern until strontium is adjusted to 8–12 mg/L.
Each 6g/150L increases strontium by about 2 mg/L.
The amount or frequency can be adjusted as needed.
Subsequently, use as needed to maintain strontium.
Expert
After determining the strontium depletion rate, set up a continuous drip system.
Use the following formula (or skip the calculations and use our dosing calculator) to determine the amount to add to your top-off water: m = vs / 30 (m = grams to add to top-off water, v = tank volume in liters, s = amount to increase strontium in mg/L).
For example, if you want to increase strontium by 6 mg/L in a 200L aquarium, you will add (200x6) / 30 = 40g to the top-off water
[For reference: 1 gallon = 3.8 liters].
Use the Reef Status ™: Strontium test kit to check strontium levels.
Considerations
Use Reef Status ™ Strontium to test strontium levels
We recommend a strontium level between 8-12 mg/L.
It is advisable to make large adjustments slowly to avoid exceeding the intended level.
Excess strontium can increase carbonate alkalinity loss.
Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement.
DO NOT OVERDOSE: Excess strontium can increase carbonate alkalinity loss. Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement. Ideally, strontium and carbonate additives should be added every other day or at least 30 minutes apart.
