Reef Advantage Magnesium™ - 300g - SEACHEM
- Concentrated magnesium source, mixed and ionically balanced
- Does NOT contain ammonia
- Of vital importance to prevent ionic imbalance
Overview
Reef Advantage Magnesium™ is a concentrated (80,000 ppm) optimized blend of magnesium, chloride, and sulfate salts designed to restore depleted magnesium levels with minimal impact on the ionic ratios found in natural seawater. Reef Advantage Magnesium™ does not contain ammonia, which is a common contaminant in all liquid magnesium supplements on the market.
Severely depleted levels of magnesium (below 800 mg/L) can lead to a drop in pH and an inability to maintain appropriate magnesium levels. The most common causes of magnesium deficiency are the use of kalkwasser, frequent overdosing of a carbonate additive, or low levels in the salt mix itself. Kalkwasser, for example, precipitates magnesium as magnesium hydroxide, while excess carbonates precipitate it as magnesium carbonate. In both cases, this means that the magnesium that was present in the water is no longer available. Of the two, magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate, the former is more problematic; it is extremely insoluble. Once magnesium has precipitated as magnesium hydroxide, it will no longer dissolve. Magnesium carbonate will dissolve again; however, it does so slowly. So, while it will return to solution,

Instructions
Beginner
Use 5 g (1 level teaspoon) per 80 L (20 gallons) twice a week.
Dissolve in at least 250 ml (1 cup) of fresh water.
For precise measuring, use the digital spoon scale.Seachem .
Advancement
Check the magnesium level (use Reef Status™ Magnesium to test the magnesium levels), then follow the addition scheme above until the magnesium is adjusted to 1,200–1,350 mg/L.
Each 5 g / 80 L increases the magnesium by approximately 5 mg / L.
The quantity or frequency can be adjusted, but should not exceed 25 g / 80 L per day.
Subsequently, use as needed to maintain the magnesium.
Expert
After determining the rate of magnesium depletion, set up a continuous drip system.
Use the following formula (or skip the calculations and use our dosage calculator) to determine the amount to add to your make-up water: g = vm / 80 (g = grams to add to the make-up water, v = volume of the tank in liters, m = amount to increase magnesium in mg/L).
For example, if you want to increase the magnesium by 10 mg/L in a 200-liter tank, you will add (200x10) / 80 = 25 g to the make-up water.
[Pour référence: 1 gallon = 3,8 litres, 5 g = 1 cuillère à café].
RemarksUse the Reef Status™ Test Kit: Magnesium, Carbonate & Borate to check magnesium levels.
Considerations
Use Reef Status™ Magnesium to test magnesium levels.
We recommend a magnesium level between 1200-1350 mg/L.
Make large adjustments slowly to avoid overshooting the intended level.
The quantity or frequency can be adjusted, but should not exceed 25 g / 80 L per day.
Dissolve in at least one cup of fresh water.
An excess of magnesium can increase the loss of carbonate alkalinity.
Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement.
DO NOT OVERDOSEAn excess of magnesium can increase the loss of carbonate alkalinity. Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement. Ideally, magnesium and carbonate additives should be added every two days or at least 30 minutes apart. A slight clumping of this product may occur but does not affect its use; any lumps will break apart very easily.

How can I mix Reef Advantage Magnesium™ to be used in an automatic dosing system?
To prepare a stock solution, you will use the following formula for Reef Advantage Magnesium:
____ (x) ____ (amount you want to increase the Mg each week) ÷ 5 ppm (amount a standard dose increases the Mg) = ____ (a) ____ (number of doses you would need per 80 L to increase the Mg by (x) ppm)
______ (a) _____ (result (a) from above) × 5g (standard quantity of grams per 80L) = _____ (b) ______ (quantity of grams per 80L needed to increase Mg by 20 ppm)
___y____ (the volume of your tank) ÷ 80 L (standard dose volume) = ___ (c) _____ (amount of dose you need for (y))
___ (b) __ (see answer (b) above) × ___ (c) ___ (see (c) above) = ____ (d) ___ g per week
Divide by 7 to obtain the daily amount.
For your referenceThe amount of Reef Advantage magnesium that can be successfully dissolved is 1-2 cups in 1 liter of water. These are only estimates based on our results, and the results may vary in a larger volume of water.
